Our Story
Our Team of carpenters at Build Firm are not just jack of all trades or your typical Residential Builders.
We take care of our clients and help them through their renovation or building journey no matter what stage they are at. We try to make it simple and take care of everything, from helping with initial planning and plans to managing the complete project start to finish, organising every material and sub contractor required.
We set ourselves apart by being a quality not quantity focused company and maintain upmost professional standards across the board. As a proud Masterbuilder member our workmanship is proven and guaranteed.
Who is Sam Henderson?
Hi, I’m Sam Henderson, owner and managing director of Build Firm Ltd.
My professional journey began when I was 17 and left school to work for a commercial construction company. Fresh into the realities of the working life, I tried my hand at being a labourer, concrete layer and digger operator.
These experiences sparked my interest in the building industry, where I found myself loving the atmosphere of working in a team and making my way up the ranks.
In 2012 I started a building apprenticeship with Cadre Construction. The director Andre Woelfel allowed me to be involved in multiple project types from new homes, renovations and commercial projects such as ‘The Backdoor Surf Shop’ on Barrys Point Road, Takapuna and ‘Ocean Point’ Beach Apartments in Orewa.
Two years later, I moved on from Cadre Construction and began working on high-end residential homes for Synergy Build Group, based on the Northshore.
It was during this time with Synergy director Mark Campbell that my career progressed the most and I soon become a qualified licensed builder.
On one of my standout projects, I was the foreman in charge of a 1.5-million-dollar Architectural new build designed by Young+Richards, a bespoke architectural firm. For the design to be possible it required 27 engineered steel beams and featured three different cladding types all with various tricky junctions.
I found my passion for being connected with clients and fulfilling their unique desires, which makes the residential construction process so rewarding, especially when it comes time to hand over the keys.
When you become a part of a major investment in someone’s life, the faith and trust that gets put in your hands are special. The journey you go on together creates bonds that last a lifetime!
After years of high-end residential construction, I had the confidence and the necessary skills to go out on my own and start Build Firm. I started as a one-man-band which had its challenges and made me learn skills to do two-man jobs by myself!
Build Firm has now grown to a well-oiled team of five specialising in complex renovations and new builds. We all share the same pride and passion for construction and find joy in teaching our apprentices and honing their skills as well as our own.
One recent job we completed was a two-bedroom, living room and bathroom addition to a Devonport Villa. What made the job interesting was the tight site access required the whole house to be lifted two meters above ground level to carry out the foundation works!
Our Team combines over 30+ years of experience from vastly different building projects all over Auckland which makes problem-solving only a phone call away.
We strive to uphold high standards in all aspects of our company, from your first interaction with us to the last. We are always seeking new ways to improve our services and the way we do business. Quality and customer service are our highest priorities.
